An updated look for Loss Forecaster

Loss Forecaster has an updated user interface rich in hyperlinks, graphics and other tools to make your use of the system easier than ever. Although the main menu (or Home page, as we now call it), has changed quite a bit, the functions are grouped in commonsense categories and the actual data entry screens will still be very recognizable to you. Loss Forecaster functionality is now organized into six major areas:

  • Loss Analysis Data - for creating or selecting an analysis file

  • Reports and Graphs - for previewing or printing a report for the currently selected analysis file

  • System Loss Development Factors - for viewing system-defined LDFs

  • System Preferences - for specifying the user's name, address, logo file, and more.

  • File Utilities - for copying or deleting files.

The sixth area has dynamic links which may change (after a software update) to emphasize new information or functionality pertaining to the software.

If you're a user of our popular ModMaster software, you'll recognize the new Loss Forecaster for its similarity to that software!

See the column at the right for more information about getting around the new LF.

Improved definitions and explanations available in both software-based and web-based help

On-screen text and hyperlinks are used extensively for local and web-based help. The title of each page is a hyperlink that provides an overview of that page. Most pages also have an "I want to..." pull-down box with additional options for web resources that relate to the page. On detail screens, each data entry or display field is labeled with a hyperlink that explains more about that specific field, and sections of the screen also have hyperlink labels.

New ways to navigate through Loss Forecaster

The familiar right and left arrows will take you from the home page to file creation and through all the data entry steps for a loss projection or reserve analysis, ending at the Reports and Graphs page. You can also navigate to all system functions through the menu hierarchy or by using the pull-down menu at the top of the screen.

Up to 15 policy periods now supported

By user request, analysis capacity has been increased from 10 to 15 policy periods for both loss projections and reserve analyses. The Number of Policy Periods field is located on the Analysis Setup Data page.

Additional exposure options for loss projections

For greater flexibility, you can now select from more exposure options, which vary depending on the chosen line of coverage. Both the line of coverage and exposure are selected on the Analysis Setup Data page.

Line of Coverage Exposures
Automobile Delivery Trips, Miles Driven, Payroll, Sales, Vehicles, Noninflationary Unit
General Liability Payroll, Sales, Square Footage, Noninflationary Unit
General and Product Liability Payroll, Sales, Square Footage, Noninflationary Unit
Product Liability Payroll, Sales, Square Footage, Noninflationary Unit
Workers Compensation Man Hours, Number of Employees, Payroll, Sales, Noninflationary Unit

State-specific loss development factors (LDFs) available for workers compensation analyses

Workers compensation loss projections or reserve analyses can now use state-specific loss development factors. When you select "workers compensation" as the line of coverage on the Analysis Setup Data page, a "Workers Compensation Optional Input" area appears where you can specify use of national or state factors. Weighted use of multiple state factors, such as Missouri - 25%, Kentucky - 25%, Tennessee - 50%, is supported.

Easier-to-understand method for entering excess losses

A pop-up subform is used to enter and display excess losses, and the impact of those excess losses is immediately shown on the Excess of Limit Data Input or Excess of Threshold Data Input pages.

The sample files "Sample Loss Projection 2006.lf3" and "Sample Reserve Analysis 2006.lf3" are automatically installed with Loss Forecaster (into the destination folder, typically c:\Loss Forecaster) so that you can select these files in Loss Forecaster and step through the analysis to get a better idea of how Loss Forecaster works. The Getting Started with Loss Forecaster video also shows a sample file analysis in a screen-by-screen method. If you need these files again, you can download them by clicking the links below:
