Gathering
data
view the video clip
To
calculate a mod, you will need to know the experience rating period,
payroll data, and loss data.
The
experience rating period is typically three consecutive periods excluding
the most recently completed policy period. For example, for a mod with an
effective date of 1/1/2005, the policy periods will typically be
-
1/1/2001-1/1/2002,
-
1/1/2002
- 1/1/2003, and
-
1/1/2003
to 1/1/2004.
The
data you will need to input (or import) includes:
-
payroll
for each policy period in the experience rating period, by payroll
code
-
losses
for each policy period in the experience rating period
You
can get this information from a bureau worksheet if the mod has already
been promulgated by the bureau. If you are calculating a mod prior to its
promulgation, you may need to use data from the client's records, the
insurance carrier, and/or old mod sheets.
The
following example is for an NCCI calculation. While the payroll and loss
screens vary somewhat for PA/DE and NJ calculations, the overall flow of
data entry for the calculation is the same.

For
most states, small losses under $5,000 can be grouped and entered on this
page. Pay special attention to losses that are type 6, medical-only
losses. These losses are reduced by 70% and must be indicated as type 6 in
the IJ code field in order for the calculation to be correct. You can
click the right-arrow "Next" button in the toolbar to go to the
next page.
