The new
look of ModMaster - updated but familiar
view the video clip
ModMaster
has an updated user interface rich in hyperlinks, graphics and other tools
to make your use of the system easier than ever. The five major functions
from ModMaster 2000 - data management, reports and graphs, what-if
analysis, system administration, and utilities - are easily recognizable
in the new system. A sixth area on the main menu, or home page, has links
that may change when you update ModMaster to highlight important or
helpful information.
Hyperlinks
and the "I want to know" pull-down box for software-based and web-based help
view the video clip
Hyperlinks
are used extensively for local and web-based help. The title of each page
is a hyperlink that provides an overview of that page. Most pages also
have an "I want to..." pull-down box with additional options for
web resources that relate to the page. On detail screens, each data entry
or display field is labeled with a hyperlink that explains more about that
specific field, and sections of the screen also have hyperlink labels.
New ways to
navigate through ModMaster
view the video clip
The
familiar right and left arrows will take you from the home page to file
creation and data entry, through a calculation and to the Reports and
Graphs page. You can navigate to all system functions through the menu
hierarchy or by using the pull-down menu.
New options on the
Mod File Selection page
view the video clip
The
list of mod files on the Mod File Selection List Page can now be sorted
(ascending or descending) by using the small "a to z" and
"z to a" buttons beside each field name.
You
can add a new mod file by clicking the Add
button on the toolbar.
You
can delete a mod file by clicking the Delete
button on the toolbar.
You
can search for something in the mod file list by first clicking the Find
button on the toolbar. For example, to search for a file containing
account name "Acme," type "Acme" in the Find
What box, select "All" in the Search
box to search all records, select "Any Part of Field" in the Match
box to find records containing but not limited to "Acme" (such
as Acme Consolidated, Acme of America, etc.), and check off the boxes to Match
Case and Search Only Current Field,
unless you want to further restrict your search by those parameters.
To
select a mod file for viewing or editing, click on the desired file name.
New look for the Company
Setup page
view the video clip
Similar
to ModMaster 2000, the Company Setup page is divided into three sections,
the basic information, the policy period information and the exception
information. The exception information now appears at the right of the
screen instead of as a second page and is hidden by default.
The
policy period information area now features a new button labeled Auto-Fill
Dates. You can click this button to automatically fill the most
recent three policy periods with policy dates based on the effective date
you have entered.
If
you have interstate, intrastate and/or multiple adjustments to make in a
calculation, you will need to click the Show
button on the Exception Information bar in order to view and enter data
into these fields. We recommend that you keep these fields hidden unless
you need them.
New
record navigation on payroll and loss pages
view the video clip
You
can now navigate through the records on the payroll and loss screens by
using the up and down arrows on your keyboard. This should make data entry
from a bureau worksheet a little easier.
New options for
Large Loss information
view the video clip
The
Large Loss page now shows more than one loss record at a time, depending
on your screen resolution and window size. But even more options are
available by using the View button on
the toolbar. Using this button, you can select to view or enter the Large
Loss records in form view (the default), short spreadsheet view (required
data only), or expanded spreadsheet view (all data). Once again, in the
spreadsheet-types views, the up and down arrows may be useful for record
navigation or data entry. Note that you can also sort loss records by any
field in the expanded spreadsheet view.
New data
verification feature
view the video clip
After
you calculate a mod, the Mod Summary Page has a new format for critical
and warning messages. The first area, "Data Verification
Results," shows the results of an audit of the ModMaster data. While
the desired status is "The audit has been completed with no critical
errors or warning messages," many critical or warning errors such as
missing data, data for conflicting states, and date range problems may be
noted here. Note that you may have to page through several records if you
have more than one error.
Below
this area is a space where a critical calculation message is noted. Links
to ModMaster support and the technical error log, which we might ask you
to review with us, are provided.
New
design to the Reports and Graphs page
view the video clip
The
new Reports and Graphs page has two selection boxes. The selection box at
the left features the report selection list similar to what you used in
the old ModMaster. When you select a report, its brief description appears
in the blue box below the selection list. To select multiple reports, hold
down the control (Ctrl) key while clicking. Then you can click the Print
Preview or Print Now
buttons.
The
selection box to the right features descriptions of certain groups of
reports, such as "Key reports to help me explain the mod to my
client" and "How changes in payroll or losses would affect the
mod." When you click on a group description, a more detailed
description and a listing of the reports in that group appears in the blue
box below. Some reports may be listed in more than one group. You can
click the link Preview the above reports now
to immediately preview the reports in the selected group instead of having
to select them from the list at the left.
New
reports
view the video clip
The
Mod Snapshot report is packed with five mini-reports on one page. It
features the key calculation numbers, a breakdown of mod contributions to
the premium, the impact of specific losses, a graph of actual vs. expected
losses, and the mod formula shown with actual numbers from the
calculation.
The
Ratio Analysis report shows the ratio between actual and expected losses,
both primary and excess, and provides a brief interpretation of the
results.
The
Mod Impact on Premium Analysis report graphically depicts the impact the
mod had on the premium paid. It also shows the average mod, the minimum
mod and the controllable mod.
The
Payroll Entry Data Verification report shows the payroll entries in the
order they were entered.
New and improved
utilities
view the video clip
Through
the Utilities page, you can rollover, copy and delete files as before. You
can also rename a mod file or archive a file so that it does not show in
the mod file selection list but can be imported for later use.
The
import and export features have been changed. Further information is
available here.
Easier
updates
view the video clip
No
more confusion over whether to run a single PC or network update file -
there's only one update file with the new ModMaster. Network/client users
no longer have to worry about updating both the server and client - the
client update is automatically detected. More

Improved access to
rating data
view the video clip
Through
the System Administration/Rating data function, you can now view a summary
of each state and the effective date of that state's latest update within
ModMaster. You can then click on a state and enter a desired payroll code
in order to see the rate history for that code.
Full
support for all claim methods (NCCI method)
view
the video clip
For calculations using the NCCI method, the
claim method is now a pull-down box on the Large Loss page. This value
defaults to the most common claim method, "State Per Claim Accident
Limitation," but you can select other accident limitations of
"State Multiple Claim," "USL&HW Per Claim," "USL&HW
Multiple Claim," and "Employers Liability." At calculation
time, the loss will be automatically adjusted based on the claim method
you select. Support for
Pennsylvania 25% cap on mods
view
the video clip ModMaster
now supports the April 1, 2004 rule implementing a plus or minus 25% cap
on Pennsylvania mods from one year to the next. (See our article Special
Notice Concerning Pennsylvania Calculations for more information.) To
calculate the limitation, check the box labeled "Limit PA mod if
applicable" on the Company Setup page for a PA/DE calculation. Enter
the previous year's mod in the "Prior mod" field that is
displayed. The mod will be automatically limited and displayed on the Mod
Summary page and all reports. The unlimited mod is shown in a footnote on
the PA/DE Detailed Report.
