Search Tips
By default the search
engine tries to locate pages which have exact matches for all of
the words entered in your search query. If that fails, it then tries to
locate pages which contain any words in your search query. If that
happens, a short message is displayed at the top of the search results
indicating this has been done.
|
Generally, you will get better results if
you focus on key words or short phrases instead of a long question. For
example, instead of searching on "How do I determine a value for the
manual premium?," just search on "manual premium."
|
In addition, there are several ways to modify the default search
behavior.
- + and - qualifiers
If you prepend a word with + that word is required to be on the
page.
If you prepend a word with - that word is required to not
be on the page.
Example: +specific -software
- * wildcard
If a query word ends with a * all words on a page which start
the same way as that query word will match.
Example: comp*
- ? wildcard
If a query word contains a ? any character will match that
position.
Example: m?d
The search engine is not
case-sensitive. Here are some examples:
- specific
software
- finds documents containing
'specific' and 'software', whether the words are together as a
phrase or are found separately
- +specific -
software
- finds only those documents
containing 'specific' but not containing 'software'
- comp*
- finds documents containing
words starting with the letters 'comp', such as compensation,
competition, etc.
-
- m?d
- finds documents containing
the words mad, mod, mud, etc.
